Duncan on Trump Nominee for Key Western Hemisphere Affairs Post

Mar 9, 2018 Issues: Energy, Foreign Affairs

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Jeff Duncan (SC-03) released the following statement regarding President Trump’s nominee for the Assistant Secretary position for the Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs:

“The Trump Administration’s decision to move forward with a nominee for the Assistant Secretary position for the Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs is welcome news. I have worked with Kim Breier over the years, and she has deep knowledge of the region, its history and culture, and core U.S. interests. Kim’s years of government service supporting U.S. national security and her expertise in the region, particularly on energy issues in Mexico, Argentina, and Chile, make her an excellent choice for advancing the Administration’s vision for greater energy engagement in the Americas. North America has become an energy superpower with abundant natural resources, increasingly integrated energy markets, new technologies, and a focus on private-sector solutions. South America also has a rapidly expanding and diverse energy landscape with significant oil and natural gas production, the world’s largest lithium reserves in Chile, and Argentina’s unconventional hydrocarbons. Today, we have huge opportunities to achieve greater hemispheric-wide energy security by also addressing the energy needs of our Central America and the Caribbean partners, and Kim’s leadership at State will be essential to moving these priorities forward.”
