Duncan Responds to Congressional Budget Office's Budget & Economic Outlook

Feb 5, 2014 Issues: Economy and Jobs

Washington, D.C. - Today, the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO) released their report on the Budget and Economic Outlook for 2014 - 2024. The report found that Obamacare will reduce full-time jobs by more than 2 million over the next decade, insure 1 million fewer people this year than originally estimated, and reduce the aggregate labor compensation in the economy by around 1 percent. In addition to these findings, the CBO estimates the annual federal budget deficits will grow hundreds of billions of dollars to over a trillion dollars, again. Congressman Jeff Duncan (SC-03) had this to say about the findings:

“Last week, the President gave his annual State of the Union address to Congress, but today we learned of the true State of the Union – that Americans are suffering under the President’s health care law. Last year, the American people found out they couldn’t keep their insurance plans or doctors under Obamacare; today they found out they may lose their full-time status at work as well.”

“My heart breaks for the people who have repeatedly been misled by this President, Senator Reid, and Congresswoman Pelosi. Only adding salt to injury, the Democrats continue to ignore the facts and play political games with the law.”

“Republicans have been shouting about the problems with ObamaCare from the roof tops from the very beginning; but only now are some Democrats willing to acknowledge the truth. The health care law threatens our nation’s economic recovery. It’s time for the President and his colleagues to admit they made a mistake and join us in replacing this monstrosity with common sense, market-based and patient-centered reforms.”
