Duncan to EPA: Reverse Proposed Carbon Emissions Regulation

Jun 19, 2014 Issues: Energy

Washington, DC –84 Members of Congress signed onto a letter drafted by Congressman Jeff Duncan (SC-03) asking the EPA to rescind newly proposed carbon regulations, citing the high costs to American families and damaging economic impacts of the misguided regulation.

“These new regulations will hurt families struggling to make ends meet the most, and could do severe damage to our overall economy,” Duncan said about the regulatory guidance. “One study found that these new regulations would cost an average family of four over $1,200 in income annually by 2023, and another found similar regulations would cost the economy 178,000 jobs each year for fifteen years. This comes at the worst possible time when families are already struggling to deal with the rising cost of living.”

The letter also delves into the Constitutionality of the EPA issuing such a regulation:

“We believe that the authority to limit carbon emissions, even if that were actually a necessity, rests in neither the Constitution nor the Clean Air Act but in the true free market of individual choices made by the American people. When Americans are free to dream and innovate – not coerced by regulators in Washington who will never have exclusive knowledge of science or the newest technologies – we believe they will always find cheaper, cleaner, safer, and more efficient ways to use and produce energy.”
