Press Release

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Jeff Duncan (SC-03) issued the following statement on President Trump’s executive order to exclude illegal immigrants from the census count for the purpose of apportionment for congressional representation:

“Illegal immigrants are not citizens of the United States---they have no right to vote and should not be counted to determine representation in Congress. Including them in the count only serves to reward lawlessness and provide an incentive for sanctuary cities and states to continue undermining federal immigration enforcement. Ensuring that American citizens have fair and accurate representation in Congress is just as important as protecting individual voting rights. I wholeheartedly support President Trump’s effort to ensure that representation in Congress is decided only by the citizens of our country.”
