Duncan Statement on the “HEROES” Act

May 15, 2020

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Jeff Duncan (SC-03) released the following statement after voting no on the "HEROES" Act:

"It comes as no surprise that Nancy Pelosi and her band of followers have continued to use the COVID-19 pandemic as an excuse to advance their radical, left-wing agenda. Today I voted "no" on the 1,800-page "HEROES" Act, as this bill is not about helping American families and small businesses recover from COVID-19.

"In fact, the "HEROES" Act isn't actually heroic at all. The bill includes bailouts for blue states, anti-work provisions that would hurt our economy, money for sanctuary cities, get out of jail free cards for prisoners, gives stimulus payments to illegal immigrants, federalizes our elections, and contains several other non-COVID-19 related items.

"With a price tag of $3 trillion dollars, this is the most expensive bill to ever pass the House of Representatives. Further, the Senate has made it clear the bill is dead on arrival and President Trump has also threatened to veto it.

"It saddens me that House Democrats continually put politics over progress. I will always fight against this type of reckless governing. The American people expect and deserve Congress to deliver bipartisan relief responses during a pandemic. We should be focused on passing legislation that will help Americans and American businesses get back on their feet as soon as possible, but unfortunately, that is not the goal of the "HEROES" Act."
