Duncan Introduces the Protecting American Energy Production Act
Washington, D.C. – Congressman Jeff Duncan (SC-03) introduced H.R. 7400, the Protecting American Energy Production Act. This bill is part of a larger energy infrastructure package led by the House Energy and Commerce Committee Ranking Member Greg Walden and Committee Republicans:
“There has been an aggressive push by left-wing environmentalists to ban hydraulic fracturing or “fracking.” Instead of focusing on furthering the American Energy Renaissance, they are determined to implement unrealistic, progressive policies like the Green New Deal. That is why this week I have introduced H.R. 7400, the Protecting American Energy Production Act. This bill prohibits future Presidents from using their executive powers to declare a moratorium on the use of hydraulic fracturing, unless authorized by an Act of Congress. It further expresses that States have the authority to regulate hydraulic fracturing for oil and natural gas production on State and privately-owned lands.
“The United States currently leads the world in oil and gas production. At the same time, we are also seeing carbon dioxide emissions decline more than any other country. We continue to make strong progress but implementing a ban on fracking would take us several steps back. It would increase American dependence on foreign oil sources, and have detrimental effects on our economy, national security, and environment. I’m hopeful this legislation will prevent the unrealistic, partisan policy agenda to ban fracking from coming to fruition,” said Rep. Duncan.
“U.S. energy independence supports hundreds of thousands of American jobs, strengthens our economy, and bolsters our national security against bad actors and supply chain threats. I thank Rep. Duncan for his leadership to help modernize our energy infrastructure by introducing the Protecting American Energy Production Act. This bill is part of an important effort to ensure our American energy sector continues to power our lives, from the fuel in our cars to the electricity in our homes, for future generations,” said Ranking Member Walden.
