COVID-19 Testing and Supplies

On Monday, President Trump and the Assistant Secretary for Health at the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Admiral Brett Giroir, provided an update on the progress our country has made on COVID-19 testing. Over 9 million COVID-19 tests have been performed in the United States, far exceeding the number of tests conducted by any other country in the world. Further, this month every state should have the ability to test more people per capita than South Korea has tested per capita since the beginning of the outbreak.

It’s also important to note that the Trump Administration and the private sector have worked tirelessly to ensure our nation’s healthcare workers have enough Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and ventilators as we fight this virus.

It is critical that we continue these efforts as we proceed with reopening more of the economy, and I applaud the Trump Administration for their hard work to ensure testing resources and supplies are more widely available to all states.

Phase 4 COVID-19 Response Package
Democrats are in the process of rolling out their “Phase 4” COVID-19 response package to include funding for purposes other than fighting the coronavirus. State and local governments have already received billions in funding since the beginning of this pandemic to help with the local response, but they are aiming to add more funding that would go beyond the scope of fighting the coronavirus.

Protecting Life
I signed on to new legislation, the Protecting Life in Crisis Act, to ensure federal COVID-19 dollars don’t go towards abortions or abortion coverage. In times of crisis, we can’t take our eye off the ball – we must continue being a voice for the voiceless. I will fight for this legislation and other measures in Congress to protect the conscience of taxpayers and the unborn.
