We Will Recover
My heart is with those that were impacted by the tornadoes and severe storms in South Carolina earlier this week. I surveyed the damage in Oconee County with Governor Henry McMaster, Sheriff Mike Crenshaw, and the local Legislative Delegation, and the devastation took my breath away. Please join me in praying for the many individuals, families, and businesses impacted, as well those that lost loved ones. I stand ready to assist in any way that I can. We will rebuild together!
If you have any questions, comments, or concerns relating to the storms, you can call 864-364-5428 or 864-364-5436.
President Trump announced his “Guidelines for Opening Up America Again,” and I couldn’t be happier to see this progress. We can’t wage war against our economy while we fight off the coronavirus on another front. We MUST handle both. Economic devastation and health devastation are equally as important for us to tackle at this point in time. That’s why I believe the path forward must have two top priorities: fight the virus AND re-open America. Read my full thoughts HERE.
You can view President Trump’s Guidelines for Opening Up America Again HERE.
I joined fellow House colleagues in writing to the President encouraging a swift and safe reopening of the U.S. economy. Read the letter HERE.
Holding China and the WHO Accountable
China’s lies on the coronavirus outbreak – propped up by the World Health Organization (WHO) – are a disgrace. Reports show they waited 6 critical days before warning the public of the pandemic. Instead of prioritizing a warning to the world, they prioritized propaganda and misinformation. We have to hold China and the WHO accountable for these actions, and I’m thankful we have a President in the White House who is not afraid to stand up for America on the world stage.
I joined my colleagues in cosponsoring House Resolution 917 to halt funds to the WHO, and joined a letter to the National Institutes of Health (NIH) demanding a halt of funds to the Wuhan, China virus lab that, according to various new reports, could have been responsible for the COVID-19 outbreak.
Paycheck Protection Program (PPP)
PPP has been a lifeline for small businesses during this time of fighting COVID-19. $350 billion in funds have been dispersed across the country, and the program needs more money as soon as possible to help even more small businesses.
Unfortunately, Democrats have chosen to block emergency funding for the bipartisan PPP to keep the program alive in order to use it as leverage for unrelated priorities.
You can read more about what’s been happening with PPP HERE by the Wall Street Journal Editorial Board. They state…
“The longer Democrats refuse to provide financing for small businesses after government cut off their revenue, the more Americans will have every right to conclude that Mrs. Pelosi and Mr. Schumer are responsible for the worsening economic destruction.”
These games need to stop. Small businesses are the backbone of our economy, and they need our help NOW more than ever before. I stand with Main Street – I can only hope my Democrat colleagues will do the same.
Economic Impact Payments
Millions of economic impact payments have been hitting Americans’ bank accounts all week – and they are just getting started. You can read about the payments and the amounts HERE. For most Americans, no action is required to receive the payment, but make sure to look through the information released from the IRS to understand exactly how the payments work.
