Congressman Duncan Issues Statement on the Anniversaries of 9/11 and Benghazi

Sep 11, 2013

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Jeff Duncan (SC-03) issued the following statement today in regards to the anniversaries of 9/11 and Benghazi:

“As we pause to remember the 12th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks and the one-year anniversary of the terrorist attack in Benghazi, we are reminded that there are some in this world who seek to destroy freedom and our very way of life.”

“From Benghazi to New York, from Pennsylvania to the Pentagon, terrorists cowardly attacked innocents in an attempt to terrorize our people and force our country to bend to their will. The terrorists failed to break our resolve, and our nation showed that freedom would always persevere.”

“America is a nation filled with heroes, and on the anniversary of 9/11 we remember our armed forces and first responders who embody the best of what our country has to offer. Part of what makes these individuals heroes is their willingness to place the needs of others before themselves. As a country, we should honor their sacrifice and commitment to others by upholding the promises made by our government, and by ensuring that those who lost their lives receive the justice they deserve.”

“That is why it is unacceptable that a year after the Benghazi attack that the perpetrators have not been brought to justice, and that the country still does not have a clear picture of what took place. Our nation’s response to this attack fails to honor the memory of those who lost their lives. I reaffirm my commitment to uncovering the truth behind what took place, and continue my call for a select committee to fully investigate the events before, during, and after the attack in Benghazi. It is my belief that only through a select committee will we be able to fully investigate this tragic event, and give the families and the public the closure and accountability they deserve.”
